Thoughts on Thanksgiving…

I am so thankful to be a part of Kirk of the Plains! As I reflect on this year so far, I can honestly say that it has been a difficult year (and that seems like a huge understatement). So many of us have either experienced difficult circumstances ourselves or walked with loved ones who have (are) suffering in one way or another. Part of what has made it so difficult is that the circumstances we have found ourselves in have not been anything that we can fix; they have been too big, too difficult, and unending. In many ways, God is bringing us to the end of ourselves. He is leading us to a place of dependence and trust in Him…ultimately, a place of rest. But it is so hard to rest! We want to fix and fight and work diligently to make the circumstances of our lives conform to what we think is good. But God loves us too much to let us settle for something less than resting completely in HIs arms; trusting Him when we do not understand or like what He is doing. So this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for God working in our midst to draw our hearts to rest in Him. I have seen God draw our congregation closer to Himself as well as I have seen you draw closer to each other as you have cared for each other and shown the love of Christ to one another. So thank God for the wonderous love He has shown to Kirk of the Plains; a love that is willing to wound us deeply so that we might know Him oh so intimately.
